Los Angeles vs. Arizona, Cont.  [Greg Pollowitz]

The Los Angeles City Council, which recently voted to boycott the state of Arizona over Arizona’s new immigration law, has granted an exemption to said boycott:

Los Angeles council members voted Wednesday to make an exemption to its self-imposed boycott of Arizona, opting to extend a contract with an Arizona-based company that operates enforcement cameras at Los Angeles intersections — a program  that earned the city $6 million last year.

Green Jobs in Florida?  [Greg Pollowitz]

The state of Florida has a portal up to help residents find jobs related to the cleanup of the oil spill. Some jobs on the list have a “green job” label next to them. No explanation, however, of why a listing of say “General Labor” is somehow  a “green” job. Just something to remember the next time someone in Florida (or someone from the Obama administration — or from “Beyond Petroleum,” for that matter) touts the “green” jobs they have created.

CBS: Lara Logan’s Pregnancy is Affecting our Afghanistan War Coverage  [Greg Pollowitz]

Unbelievable. HuffPo:

CBS News’ #2 exec made a strange confession to Broadcasting & Cable magazine: the network isn’t covering Afghanistan as much as it used to because war correspondent Lara Logan is out on maternity leave.

“I would think that the biggest factor in how much less we’ve had on the air really has to do with Lara Logan’s pregnancy than it does with anything else,” CBS News Executive VP Paul Friedman said.

Daily Kos Now Too Crazy For Keith Olbermann  [Greg Pollowitz]

Keith Olbmerann is mad at the Kos Kids:

Olbermann, incensed by the commenter, later fired off a posted titled “Check, Please” explaining that he won’t be “back” to the site until it stops delving into “conspiracy theories.”

“‘Can’t verify’… ‘haven’t checked’…It can’t be verified because it’s nonsense, and it wasn’t checked because nobody bothered,” Olbermann said before launching into a critique of the blog.

Video of the Day  [Greg Pollowitz]

While the video of Rep. Etheridge going “Hulk” is entertaining, here’s a great one of Republican Mark Neumann in the Wisconsin governor’s race answering questions from Democrats at the state Democratic Party Convention. Patrick Ruffini tweets, “Any list of the best campaigns this cycle would have to include Mark Neumann.” I agree. Enjoy:

‘Essentially, We’re Being Infantilized by Our Government’  [Greg Pollowitz]

Reason TV Sits Down with Anthony Bourdain to discuss nanny-state interventions. Good stuff.

Harry Reid vs. Rasmussen  [Greg Pollowitz]

Harry Reid is not happy with the Rasmussen poll showing him down 11 percent to Sharron Angle:

Reid faces Tea Party activist Sharron Angle (R) in November, and has had somewhat of a resurrection in the polls. A Mason-Dixon poll in January showed Reid losing to Angle by 5 points, but more recent polls show the race about even. Reid dismissed a Rasmussen poll this week that showed Angle up by 11 points, saying the poll “shows how valid the Rasumussen poll is.”

Rasmussen’s numbers speak for themselves: he’s consistently one of the more accurate pollsters out there. Here are his results from 2008, 2006 (Senate and governors) and 2004.

Chuck Todd vs. Rasmussen  [Greg Pollowitz]

In a response to a reader asking Chuck Todd about the Rassmussen poll that has Angle up over Reid by 11 points, Todd responded with:

@DTCahill Not a serious polling firm. Need to see numbers from a more reliable pollster

And. . .

@DTCahill how is it bias if I refuse to report on some firm who has a horrible track record and us proven to be unreliable.

Daily Kos Drops Its Pollster  [Greg Pollowitz]

It’s now official. In light of this development, it will be interesting to see how Moulitsas defends the Research 2000 poll that is such an important part of his new book.

Psst: You Can’t Keep Your Plan  [Guy Benson]

Politico’s Jennifer Haberkorn has an interesting piece up today highlighting an unwelcome consequence of Obamacare: About a million part-time workers, restaurant employees, and retail workers will likely lose their current plan due to the new law. (Weren’t we told this type of thing was never, ever going to happen?)

Under the provision, insurance companies will no longer be able to apply broad annual caps on the amount of money they pay out on health policies. Employer groups say the ban could essentially wipe out a niche insurance market that many part-time workers and retail and restaurant employees have come to rely on.

Rep. Anthony Weiner Unloads on our “Former Ally” Turkey  [Greg Pollowitz]

Yesterday, while on my lunch break from jury duty, I ran into an Anthony Weiner press conference in lower Manhattan. He was talking mostly about the Senate’s job bill, but took a question on Israel and the “peace” flotilla at the end. During his answer, he specifically called Turkey our “former ally.” Since I thought these were strong words for a fellow NATO member and since none of the other members of the media covering the event seemed shocked at what Weiner said, I went up to him after, iPhone in hand, to ask him to clarify. The audio is here, my question is at the end (2:43). The first half, which I started recording in progress, is Weiner debating a reporter on the best way to stop a ship at sea without boarding it. Quite amusing. After my question is the good stuff when Weiner goes after Turkey for their lack of help with Iran and their role in Gaza and the Middle East as a whole.

Rober Ebert vs. Israel  [Greg Pollowitz]

Roger Ebert, linking to Glenn Greewald, tweets:

Why does Israel fear eyewitness reports of the attack?

Or we can just got to the videotape. Kill the Jews!

Joe Scarborough vs. Keith Olbermann  [Greg Pollowitz]

It started on Twitter with comments by Joe Scarborough that the MSM was absent in its Sestak coverage, escalated to include Daily Kos founder Markos Moulitsas, and ended with this from Olbermann on Friday:

“I heard a charge today that the media has been asleep on this story since it began. How much traction will Fox News, and people like those who made that charge, who do cheap impressions of Fox News…and the political party that they serve, how much mileage will they get out of this?”

Hey, Joe: There is an opening at 8 p.m. at CNN. How does “Evening Joe” sound?

An Honest Voice at MSDNC  [Greg Pollowitz]

Joe Scarborough doesn’t buy the White House explanation of the Sestak matter:

Luckily for the White House, the media has been negligent on this story since Day 1. The press will let this laughable story slide.

And. . .

What politician is tempted to get out of a race for a job with no pay, no status, more work? How stupid does the White House think you are?

Lamenting the End of Larry King Live  [Greg Pollowitz]

Brian Stelter of the New York Times:

The biggest interview on television last week, with the Senate candidate Rand Paul, happened at 9 p.m. But regrettably for CNN’s Larry King, who used to rule that time slot by wooing newsmakers, the interview was booked by his higher-rated competitor, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow.

Next week will be Mr. King’s 25th year on CNN, but these are hard days for the host, and not just because he is being beaten in ratings and bookings.
