Disproportionate Double Standard [Nathan Goulding]
Charles Krauthammer's op-ed in the Washington Post is an absolute must read.
When the United States was attacked at Pearl Harbor, it did not respond with a parallel "proportionate" attack on a Japanese naval base. It launched a four-year campaign that killed millions of Japanese, reduced Tokyo, Hiroshima and Nagasaki to cinders, and turned the Japanese home islands into rubble and ruin.
Disproportionate? No.
Speaking of disproportionate responses, let's hark back to the Mohammed cartoon controversy in February. Jonah Goldberg hit the nail on the head when he said:
If I needlessly offend my neighbor, shame on me. If, in response, he burns down my house and threatens to murder my entire family, who cares what I said in the first place?
The media didn't condemn the violent response to the printing of the Mohammed cartoons. Instead, they proclaimed it was perfectly normal to want to "behead those who insult Islam." Let's talk about that disproportionate response.
