Re: NY Times Quotes Palin Enemies to Make Its Case [Greg Pollowitz]
Elisabeth Bumiller, the writer of the Times hit-piece on McCain's vetting process I posted on yesterday, is "completely confident about the story."
The problem is, she relied on Palin's political enemies to make her own case. The equivalent would be an article quoting Hillary and Bill Clinton as being upset that they were not consulted about Joe Biden.
The problem with the Times — as well as other MSM outlets — is that they are putting forward any and all Alaska Republicans as implicit supporters of Sarah Palin, and that's just not the case. Bumiller did not give the slightest indication of the contentious relationship between her quoted sources and Palin. And that's garbage journalism.
And after re-reading the Bumiller article, I missed this doozie yesterday:
State Senator Hollis French, a Democrat who is directing the ethics investigation, said that no one asked him about the allegations. “I heard not a word, not a single contact,” he said.
That would be Hollis French, Obama surrogate. (See below.) Maybe the Times thinks Caroline Kennedy should have been consulted, too?
Back to French now. McCain is being bashed for not vetting Palin properly. French is angry he wasn't consulted. McCain's team has said, however, that they went through the archives of the Anchorage Daily News before the pick — and this is what they would have found on French and Palin on August 16:
Legislators have decided subpoenas aren't needed in the investigation of whether the governor or her aides improperly pressured the Public Safety Department to fire trooper Mike Wooten.
They canceled a Monday committee meeting to talk about what subpoenas to pursue.
The House and Senate judiciary committees were going to meet with Steve Branchflower, the investigator hired by the Legislature to look into the issue. But Branchflower isn't having any problem so far interviewing anyone in the Palin administration that he wants, said state Sen. Hollis French, who is overseeing the investigator.
"It seemed pretty unnecessary to make a big production out of subpoenas when they didn't seem necessary at this point, French said.
Of course, now that she's the veep nominee, things are a little different. And that's why French should step aside: He can no longer be considered non-partisan in this matter. Did that not occur to the Times?
